We challenge ourselves to lead the way with environmental conservation and stewardship. In 2012, we implemented the Green Star Initiative to recognize the important strides we make in our facilities.
Every single one of our locations rose to the challenge in FY23, with each earning at least one star and claiming 69 percent of available star awards overall.
One of our teams earned all five stars. Our Steel facility in Columbus, Ohio adopted a process improvement initiative to optimize oxygen flow, resulting in a reduction of 19M+ CF annual hydrogen consumption.
Sustainability is a core approach at Worthington Steel. We see it as an extension of Our Philosophy. It’s about taking action and taking care of what’s important – our people, our communities and our planet. Our purpose drives our innovation. We’re committed to being the kind of environmental steward that makes a meaningful impact. Just like Our Philosophy, that’s not going to change.
Our Philosophy guides everything we do, because our shareholders, employees and communities deserve the kind of rewarding relationship where they can thrive. That’s why we’ve built a culture where people come first. It’s the only way we know how to do business.
Our people are our greatest asset, so protecting them is paramount. For 20+ years, our SafeWorks program has been an integral part of driving a world-class safety culture.
In 2022, as part of Worthington Industries, our total case incident report per 100 employees was nearly two times better than the industry average within the Primary Metal Manufacturing category, as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
When products are built stronger, lighter and more efficiently, we improve sustainability over their entire life cycle. That’s why innovation is the key to unlocking a responsible path forward.
Higher quality solutions are longer lasting solutions. And when products reach the end of their cycle, our commitment to finding sustainable disposal methods helps keep the cycle going strong.
