Galvalume is a type of coated steel that combines the protective properties of both zinc and aluminum. It is created by coating steel with a mixture of approximately 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc, and 1.6% silicon. This coating provides excellent corrosion resistance, especially in harsh environments, and offers better protection against rust and wear compared to traditional galvanized steel, which is only coated with zinc.
Galvalume is particularly valued for its durability and long-lasting performance in industries such as construction, automotive, and roofing, where it is commonly used for metal roofing panels, siding, and other exterior applications - especially on the coastal areas where exposure to salt air is increased. The coating also gives the steel a distinctive appearance, often with a slightly reflective, silvery finish that resists oxidation and weathering over time.
